A month after their wedding at Augill Castle, Bill & Kath are off on their delayed honeymoon. They had to postpone their plans after one of Bill's stepmother Clara's 'funny turns' developed in to something rather more serious. Happily (although Kath might have a different take on things) she is now out of danger, out of hospital and, as Kath observes, once again sharing her opinions on everyone else's lives.
Having spent an idyllic wedding weekend at their fairytale castle, sandwiched between the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, the couple have decided to begin their travels in the north of England.
Using their favourite website staywithourfriends.com, they settle on Overwater Hall as the destination for their 'wedding night'.
Bill & Kath were looking for somewhere quiet, stylish but unpretentious with good food and great walking and they couldn't have chosen better than Overwater Hall.
No sooner have they arrived than a young man has enthusiastically bundled up their bags and is ushering them in to the front hall where owner Angela imbues everything with a sense of calm. Adrian, her husband, who holds sway over the kitchen, makes a brief appearance muttering something about English asparagus before heartily greeting our happy couple.
A few hours later, after a long soak in a bath big enough for two, a bottle of champagne and having polished off the little decanter of Adrian's very potent fruit liqueur that they found in their bedroom, they decide it might be a good idea to have some dinner.
Kath tries her best to glide serenely down the sweeping staircase like Angela does but is glad of Bill's arm to steady her. In the bar they meet co-owner Stephen who presents menus, organises canapes and explains the menu choices in a quiet and efficient way that shows a life spent looking after people.
The food takes Bill & Kath totally by surprise. They knew it was going to be good because Simon & Wendy at Augill Castle had told them so, but this is amazing.
The well balanced, reasonably priced wine list is also too much to resist and, well lubricated and with full tummies they retire to bed happy and content.
Next morning they wake feeling they really are now married and enjoy a breakfast equally as good as the dinner the night before. As they get ready to leave Kath spots a red squirrel nibbling nuts on the terrace.
'Quintessentially Lake District', says Bill.
